Welcome to Tiny Outlooks - A journal series that aims to inspire adventure on an achievable scale. Here in Aotearoa we are spoilt for choice with our outdoors. Sprawling coastlines, lakelands, riverways, alpine, tundra, expanses of green and everything between.
More and more, clever kiwis are finding ways to harness a tiny slice of landscape and create accessible holiday accommodation experiences for the rest of us. Tiny homes, cabins, glamp sites, sheds, bush huts and other small building conversions can be found everywhere. This is about NZ’s unique stays and the wilderness beyond.
Much of my childhood was spent amongst the wilderness. As a preschooler, my parents bought a lifestyle block bordering a river and native bush in remote Northland. Our first two years there were spent living in a tiny home / shed whilst my parents self built our family home. I now find myself, with a family of my own and a desire to revisit or discover new outdoor experiences and tiny stays.
If the past couple of years have taught me anything it would include… appreciate the simple things, be adaptable, embrace opportunities, celebrate family and… nature is an antidote to anxiety.
Stay tuned. Each Tiny Outlook Journal entry will feature a unique stay and some doorstep adventures had along the way. x Alice
